New Beginning

hey, hey...

So, it's been a little while! Sorry about that...

it's safe to say that I've been supercrazybusy these last few months with packing, moving, unpacking, getting married (!!!!!), going honeymooning, unpacking, working, and school.

all the while, the music never stopped. I'm actually in the middle of working on an EP. My plan is to write & record 5 songs in 7 days. So far, I've finished one song and I'm 2 days into the "experiment". This was inspired by one of my favorite artists, Damien Rice, who set out on the road from Dublin to Barcelona with the goal of writing and recording a song a day for 10 days and turning it into his next album. He's a bit more ambitious and talented than I am, so I scaled it back a bit. In any case, the 1st song, "Man from the mountain", is just about done & I'm already taking mental notes for the next song. This EP will be available for purchase eventually--and I'll let you know.

Some sad news....

End Result has come to an..well....End. No---we didn't have a huge fight or anything. It just happened. Life happened. James & his family moved back to Little Rock for a better life. We all miss his dry wit and quick solos and sense of humor. But he's doing well. When this started happening, the wheels just kind of stopped moving. The recording was paused, but we were still able to finish/master 9 songs, which is great. Ross is forming his own sound as I type this---he has a wealth of musical ability and there's no doubt that he'll do something truly amazing with it. Marc is great---they're expecting another child soon & he has been a rock of sorts for me in my life's transitions.

We had an awesome run---and a lot of fun & memories to take from the whole experience. I think our band was good. Not to sound snobby, but I really liked what we were doing and the direction that we took. We were around for almost 2 years and we played as much as we could. I know that it opened my eyes and helped me to become a better songwriter and a better person.

With that being said---
I'm still writing all the time. I'm still listening to music & words all the time. It never stops--and for that, I am grateful. I'll keep this thing going....I've already posted 2 new songs--"My, My" and "Coffee Black"--and will keep you posted & keep the music coming.

I just need to find an outlet for this music in Waco. It's not really a "music town". But...Austin is right down the road. Wow...this ended up being MUCH longer than I thought it would be.

Before I go, (and on behalf of the other 3/4 of End Result) I just want to say THANK YOU. Thank you for your love, support & encouragement over the last 2 years. A very special thank you to our wives & families...you helped us as we went on a very fun & amazing ride.

WE'D LIKE TO THANK:
Coffee Retreat, Rockstarz Patio, All Star, Babe's Sports Bar & Grill, Bruff's, Cafe Soleil, Fitzgerald's and especially MOJO RISIN. Also these fine folks that helped us along the way in one way or another: Mark, Robbie, Archie, Carl & Rob for roadtrippin', Erika, Jack & Terri, Jennifer, Alicia, Mari, Stephanie, Laurel, Tess, Mike, and Maura & Jake for the awesome website.

I'd Like to thank James, Ross & Marc. I had a blast and won't soon forget.

Ok---enough sappy stuff. I have to get back to writing. Take care & see you soon---

hello

hey there...

it's safe to say that it has been a LONG time since any of us posted on here. there are a few reasons for this, but the main reason is life. we've all been so incredibly busy with various things and i apologize for keeping you all out of the loop. i was made aware of this via an anonymous email asking me what was going on with the band and where is the record that we've been working on??

well, all is well with the band and we're still working on the record. our hope was to have the album completely finished by the end of the summer, but our hectic schedules prevented this from happening. now we're hoping that it will be recorded, mixed & mastered by the end of the year. we are about 3/4 of the way done with it. hopefully, we'll be able to play some shows along the way and be able to play many more shows next year before my fiance & i move to waco in August 2008. we still plan on playing shows/jamming everytime i'm in town visiting...but the shows will be much less frequent. on a side note, i've been writing like mad lately and have posted several of these solo acoustic songs online. (the links are at the bottom of this post) anyway, all is well...life is good and we're trying to get this project done as fast as possible. i hope this post answers some of those questions fo ya and i'll make a conscious effort to post here at least once every 2 weeks or so!!! once again, we'd like to sincerely thank Jake & Maura for building this site and for being part of our core support system! :) thanks, guys....

more news to come...

R U M O R S . . . . . . .

rumors, rumors
Current mood: busy

hey, hey...

i've recieved a few emails/messages from people asking me if i was planning on quitting the band due to my upcoming solo set at mojo risin. this is NOT TRUE at all. the simple truth is this:

i write/have wriiten a lot of songs that don't quite fit within the band. these songs are usually acoustic and a bit slower than the bands' sound. i approached jack (mojo owner) awhile ago and asked him to keep me in mind if they ever needed an opener or if someone had to concel last minute. the fact is that i just love playing music for people---whether it's with the rest of end result or by myself. so, he contacted me and asked me if i'd like to open for a great singer/songwriter from boulder, cait shanahan---and i said yes. like i said, i have a lot of ideas that don't really fit within the framework of the band, and i thought this show would be a great opportunity to play some of those tunes that i've been working on for the last few weeks in my bedroom.

i love playing with the band. our schedules have been super-busy lately, but we are all anxious and excited to finish the record and start playing shows again very soon. then after that, we'll start working on new ideas. playing a solo acoustic show is completely different from playing with the band. this is what i've done for most of my musical life and i'm sincerely looking forward to the June 19th show for that reason. it's an old habit that i don't want to break, i guess. and the rest of the guys are very supportive---they know that it's good for me (and the band) to do this for my own creative process. matter of fact, i think all of them will be in attendance throwing tomatoes at me!

so there you have it---all is well with the band. i write a lot. some stuff doesnt fit within the band so i play it by myself. thanks for reading and i hope this answers everyones question.

happy wednesdays to all...

my writing process

hey, hey…

When I opened my inbox this morning, there was an interesting message from a friend of mine that I've known for about 6-7 years. They've seen me play since I first gathered up enough courage to take the stage in Emporia and Lawrence. They wanted to know how I came up with my lyrics/song ideas. Well, I have about 20 minutes left on my lunch break—so I figured I'd try to answer it.

Writing is an escape for me. It's a way for me to step outside of myself and peek down at my life and surroundings. I've loved to write since I was little kid. When I started playing music, I felt I finally had the means to shape and mold those words into something tangible, identifiable and real to me.

As far as the process goes, it can happen in one of 3 ways for me. Sometimes I have the melody or music already in my head and then I write. At other times, I write the words and try to wrap the music around them. What's really rare for me is when the music and lyrics come all at once and the song completes itself immediately even though I just wrote it. When that happens, it blows me away.

People have often asked me how I can write such dark lyrics when I seem so happy and content with my life. I think I can because when I get to that place outside of myself, there are no boundaries at all. Nothing is taboo. Nothing is off-limits. Also, my life isn't always "happy". Just like everyone else, I have had tough times. But I can use those tough experiences in my writing. Some songs are personal and true to me, others are based on an idea or observation and other fall into the "What If" category—if I, someone I know or a complete stranger were placed in this situation, what would be the result or reaction? When I walk down this path of uncertainty in my writing, it forces me to be open and vulnerable.

So I guess my long-winded answer to my friends question can be summed up like this: I try to stay aware-------of everything I think, feel, hear, see and believe. By doing this, it allows me to be open and receptive to these thoughts and ideas as they race through my mind. Also, I try to get everything out. I write until the thought/idea feels complete. I may change it a bit here and there, leave it as is or set it aside for another day. But when that instant strikes and I step outside of myself, that's when I put it down on paper.

thanks for reading/listening.

see ya—

GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS

hey, hey...

it's been a little while, so i thought i'd update everyone on what's going on with the band and the album. we have 5 songs that are (or almost) completed. they are: FREE, IN ON ME, SEE YOU AGAIN, PLEASE and THROUGH INFINITY. we had an awesome rehearsal on saturday. we jammed for a couple of hours, took a little break and then worked on 4 new song ideas. one of which features Ross on guitar and myself on bass. his "untitled" song has a completely different groove to it, and i'm really looking forward to getting that one down just right so we can start playing it live. maura (my sister) is working hard on the artwork for the album and we're all anxious to see her ideas in the next few weeks. if you want to view some of her other artwork, check out her new and improved website at http://www.frag-ment-ed.com/. our plan is to lay down the groundwork on 2 more songs this sunday. we'll work on those for a couple of weeks to get them just right, and then start on the next 2 songs. the songs we're recording this weekend are "THIN" and "VICTORY SONG". so that's it for now...

our goal is to be finished with the record by late July/early August. by that, i mean every aspect of the record. the music, artwork, production, promotion, etc, etc....it should be a fun year! we won't be playing live for awhile so we can concentrate on finishing the record. but if any dates pop up, we'll be sure to let you know. i suppose i should get back to work now.....

have a good one and i'll see ya around....

the record is halfway done---5 down, 5 to go. now we're in the process of picking out the remaining tracks and trying to come up with a name for our little brainchild. we plan on starting the 2nd half of the record after our show on 4/22 @ Fitzgerald's.
